May 1 Update on 2023 Bike Ride Across Canada

So I am about to buy a one-way flight to Vancouver from Halifax to start my bicycle ride across Canada for mental health...and to be the first person with schizophrenia to do so!

It makes you focus and question yourself when you start to look at flights.

Here is me in St. John's, Newfoundland, in 1992 after biking across Canada before I got schizophrenia.

I may have some funding and help along the route, but I don't know if it's for sure yet.

As a backup plan, if funding doesn't come through, I am determined to be in Vancouver and start biking on June 4. If people see me actually out there, doing the miles, then hopefully that would show them I'm not all talk and no action, and serious about this ride. Then people may want to help out along the way to make sure I make it.

I would love to buy my ticket this week - the sooner the better. I almost bought it tonight for $300ish, but am waiting for a paycheck and...good news!...my income tax refund just happens to be $2000 this year! That was the first sign I got that said maybe I really should do this trip!

Update: The Rotary Club in Oromocto, NB, has offered to put on an event for me in the morning of August 11 as I bike through their town! They also said they would see if a Rotary Club could see me off in Vancouver! This is amazing! Thank you, Oromocto Rotary Club!
